According to Tanguay's "Dictionnaire généalogique des familles Canadiennes, Vol II", page 69, it was Francois Aubuchon b. 1691 that married Agathe Gervais. Joseph Aubuchon was the godfather to Joseph Devignet. The following is the baptismal record:
January, 1726, was born a son of the lawful marriage of Nicolas Devignet and of Dorothee Mercier... whom I baptized the same day. The godfather was Joseph Aubuchon and the godmother Cecille Brunet; he was given the name Joseph.

Annual elections for a syndic were held in Kaskaskia, as was the custom in the northern provinces of France where his duty was to represent the village in all lawsuits against it. But in the Illinois country he seems to have taken on somewhat the character of a magistrate. Joseph Aubuchon, who succeeded Antoine Bienvenu on April 13, 1739, was elected syndic of the village, in charge of the fence around the commons.
